Oil on canvas, 30"x30" ~ painted by Liz Eu.

"Donned in my first kimono best, I ventured into the bamboo grove

Walking gingerly up the steps in my wooden geta

My heart began to swell with a feeling of anticipation

The bamboo trees, so green and tall, made me feel small yet loved

Like a tower of strength, they lent me the courage to face the unknown

Rays of sunshine flickered through their thin verticals

Yet my wagasa could not keep out the warmth that touched my soul

Loneliness, weariness and unhappiness have no place in this quiet and peaceful forestry home

I must savour this moment as life’s journey is often forgotten in our pursuit of the singular goal

That there may not be a second chance to experience this so I trod on with a renewed lightness

And know that I can be like the bamboo - resilient and calm and elegant, on my own"
